Hypertension is the leading cause of nape pain. An increased blood pressure stresses the arteries in the body which may include those in the head and nape. Therefore, you will experience nape pain if you have chronic hypertension. In some cases, excessive stress and fatigue can all lead to pain in the nap accompanied with hypertension.
On the other hand, a disorder in the jaw joint may also induce nape pain. However, this happens usually with shoulder ache and pain on one side of the head. If you suspect that your chewing and jaw activities lead to you nape pain, it is best to consult a dentist.
Meanwhile, some disorders in the nervous system can lead to neck and nape pain. If you also have some tingling and numbness sensation in other parts of the body, you need to consult a neurologist. Some neuropathy treatments can also reduce the pain in the nape area if the cause is simply due to muscle or tendon stress.
One ore thing that causes nape pain is menopause. Women will experience sudden pains in different body parts which may include frequent headache, pain in the nape and overall body aches. If you are a woman aged more than 50, it is probably menopause that causes your nape to ache.
